Start by watching this clip with the subtitles turned off. Try to get the gist. See if my version helps. Read the text. Then with the subtitles. Finally without.

This is a highly educated woman speaking very informally and under a certain stress. She actually speaks very clearly, but the speed and choice of language make it quite difficult

Jacques Myard speaks quickly, he becomes excited - but, as a politician, he continues to speak clearly

It is the frozen, scripted nature of this discussion that makes it very comprehensible. Note that it is the content that is scripted - not the words themselves which are spontaneous

I'm not sure which Level this is. The voices are mostly clear, but the content is - evidently - literary. Let's say Level-2

Despite the effects of age, emotion, and the ripe accent of the Mediterranean, Paqua's voice is clear and formal. Level-1

There are a few different registers here. Drucker interviewing, Berne yapping enthusiastically, the voice-over, the historical clips. But it's mostly Level-1

Compare the French of the voice-over with the interview with Gainsbourg or the police sketch. The voice-over is pretty much like written French. The other is contextual, coded, the French of everyday life. Listen to it carefully, and see if you can correct the parts where my ear went wrong.

The dialogue is very clear, but fast, with some tortured sentence construction. A Level-2

Both men speak clearly, both have clearly prepared their scripts. But emotion speeds the delivery up, and occasionally clouds what is said - we have to infer what is said
